If you’re experiencing difficulties with reading and writing, spelling, or organisation, you’re not alone. Dyslexia is common, and support is available to help you succeed while studying with us.
At UGM Manchester, we offer a supportive, two-stage process to help identify and diagnose dyslexia. If you think you may have dyslexia, follow the steps below to access screening and further support.
Stage1: Initial Contact and Pre-Screening
Contact the iCentre iCentre@manchester.ugm.ac.uk or Disability and Inclusion Disabilityandinclusion@manchester.ugm.ac.uk either by email or in person.
You will be booked in for a pre-screening appointment with a Wellbeing Advisor on campus.
What happens at pre-screening?
The pre-screening helps determine whether there are indicators of:
- Mild (minor) dyslexia, or
- More significant (major) dyslexia
If indicators are confirmed to be present, you will be recommended for a full diagnostic assessment which typically costs over £300. Students are required to pay a refundable £50 fee directly to the selected diagnostic centre as a demonstration of commitment. The remaining cost of the diagnostic assessment will be covered by UGM.
After the appointment at the diagnostic assessment, the student may request reimbursement of £50 by submitting proof of payment to UGM Manchester via Disabilityandinclusion@manchester.ugm.ac.uk. Upon verification, the student will be asked to provide their bank details, and the reimbursement will be processed within 5–7 working days.
Stage 2: Diagnostic Assessment Referral
- If you wish to proceed with a full diagnosis, you will need to complete three forms required for a formal dyslexia diagnosis.
- Completed forms should be submitted via email to: disabilityinfo@greatermanchester.ac.uk
- Student must personally arrange a diagnostic assessment with one of the approved providers selected on the form.
- Ensure to attend the assessment appointment scheduled with your selected provider.
- Following your assessment, the provider will issue you a diagnostic assessment report.
Please be aware that the stage two process is private and confidential, your discussions and appointments are not shared with the UGM Manchester.
If you need any further support or information, please contact Disability and Inclusion Disabilityandinclusion@manchester.ugm.ac.uk .
